As a therapist, I see many people engaged in a deprivation cycle, putting important aspects of their life on hold, until they reach their perfect body weight. Fear of not being good enough often prevents people from moving forward in important areas of their life. This is not surprising, considering we are endlessly bombarded with unrealistic and unattainable images of perfection at every turn. We may internalize these images, feeling inferior and overcompensating in other ways through perfectionism. Since attaining perfection is impossible, people begin locking themselves into unhealthy behavior patterns that create more fear, social isolation and addictive behaviors. Let’s take our power back by embracing who we are, so we can live a more inspired life.
