I work from a holistic counselling approach, which means I use a variety of different therapy modalities that work to heal the mind, body and spirit of a person. I help others create change in unhealthy eating patterns by providing a nurturing counselling environment in which people feel emotionally safe to explore troubling issues that keep them stuck and in pain.
Through therapy, we will work together on creating the inner transformation that is necessary for creating outward change. You will learn to eat better with the foods that will nourish you. You will discover how to achieve your ideal weight and to feel good about your body.
Inner transformation occurs through developing therapeutic goals and increasing self-awareness about your emotions and the types of circumstances that cause you problems. It also happens by developing new tools to help you manage yourself and your eating behaviors so that you are able to live a healthy balanced lifestyle.
In the healing process, therapy will help you feel more in control of your life, which will help you feel freer, lighter and able to experience more joy.
What to Expect from Counselling or Wellness Coaching
1) Free Phone Consultation: If desired, I offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation. During this call, you have the opportunity to ask me questions related to your problems around eating and food. Together we will determine how we can work together in counselling to resolve them. During this call, I will also ask questions in order to determine if I am the best person to help you. Some questions I will ask pertain to your personal goals, challenges, personal history, previous therapy experiences, and expectations of me.
2) If, on our phone consultation, we both determine that we would be a good “therapeutic fit,” to overcome your dysfunctional eating patterns, then we would book our first appointment.
3) Our First Therapy or Coaching Session: During our first counselling or coaching session, I will ask you more questions about your history, relationship to food and your eating patterns. I will also ask you questions to assess what is preventing you from moving forward. Specifically, some of the questions I will ask are typically about your eating patterns, overall lifestyle, relationships, family history, spirituality, history of grief/losses, significant life transitions, your goals, previous therapy experiences, etc.
4) Therapy or Coaching Appointments: After our first counselling or coaching session, we will typically have weekly sessions in order to create substantial benefits. You may book your appointment’s from week to week, or you may book them in advance to ensure that you reserve the times best suited to you.
Through our therapy or coaching sessions, we will work together to resolve underlying issues that create and maintain your problems with eating and body image. Often people ask, “How many appointments will I need to get better?” Based on my experience, most people feel the benefits of counselling or coaching immediately. However creating lasting change varies for each person. Some people take longer to heal if they have any mental health disorders, trauma histories and other more enduring lifelong patterns to overcome.
People generally continue counselling or coaching if they feel there is change and growth happening, and then wean off the process when they are feeling better.
